The "beta sandwich" is formed by two rows of beta strands (three strands in each) pressed against each another. Five strands (green) come from alpha subunit and one (red) from beta subunit. This red beta strand penetrates through the middle of alpha subunit. On both sides beta strands are flanked by alpha helices. White helix comes from alpha subunit and yellow helix comes from beta subunit.
